Is Traditional Incense/Bukhoor Still Profitable For Businesses?
I was at a Event For Fashion at Al Ain Last week, and i saw more then 30 or 40 booths that was stationed in the event.
a lot of them was unsurprisingly, selling Clothes , but there was 3 similar shops that was selling Incense & Perfumes!
Unsurprisingly, They haven't sold a single thing And BTW, the booths Costs were 5,000 - 15,000 AED!! Talk about money Down the drain.
Of course i haven't sold a lot either, the Event was absolutely terrible, but unlike my competitor i was able to sell Incense at the price of 220 AED with 60% Margin Profit, while he had to Sell Pure oud with a 20% Margin Profit.
He had to buy Oud Powder From a Borderline Scammer Supplier that sold him for 1 kilo 600 AED (This is considered cheap btw) then he had to Mix it with other ingredients that took more of his money, But more importantly, His TIME!
But his margin profit is only 20%
It makes Sense because this man is selling a Commodity! there is nothing new about Incense that burns with Coal, even if it was shaped differently so that means in a lot of cases its even less then 20% with even More Competition...
The Difference is Clear: The More You innovate, The bigger Your Margin Profit is, and there is nothing more innovative to a Incense brand then Joss Powder which Is an adhesive that makes your Incense Modern & New.
I was able to sell at high price Because i was different and was selling as a brand.
My Product was unique to the Market, theirs was a Commodity, its like selling water, your only Competitive advantage is your price, which is terrible because there's always someone who is willing to go lower then You,
Especially when you're at the same place at your competitors, Which surprise surprise, That's Exactly where we Were!!.
I hope You Have Found this post Helpful, Insightful And most Importantly Entertaining!
Bye .
